The staggering parts of the results were this – it’s not just older males suffering from the decline. It is also happening among in younger men, too. “A man born in 1970 had about 20 percent less testosterone at age 35 than a man of his father’s generation at the same age,” says Travison. “When I saw another group reproducing our results,” Travison claims, “that was convincing to me that we were seeing a true biological change over time.”

This means a lot.

Insulin Overload

Food can dramatically change testosterone levels. The problem with today’s food is the amount of processed ingredients when compared to previous generations. Food contains more wheat, sugar, and corn products, all of which have been shown to inflame the body. Try removing any processed carbohydrates from your diet.

We now know that high carbohydrate diets are not the best idea for the majority of males. The reason behind this is a hormone called insulin. Although insulin is produced after all meals, it increases the most after carbohydrate meals. Insulin has an affect on your testosterone and sex drive. Insulin production halts growth hormone from being secreted.

Growth hormone is vital for testosterone production, so this is vital. Insulin can also have an impact of erectile dysfunction. This can result in less hormone production including testosterone.

Hop To It

The estradiol in hops has also been found to directly interfere with the ability of the testes Leydig cells to produce testosterone.

Soy – Is It Really A Super-Food?

Soy – once touted as the healthy super food – is not what it seems. Among the many reasons to avoid eating soy is that it is very high in estrogen. When soy is consumed, it will have powerful estrogen-like effects on the body. That’s not good for males. In one study, the males suffered a 19% drop in serum testosterone in only 28 days when supplemented with 56 grams of soy protein powder over that same time period (Prev 2007;16:829–33). High levels of estrogen in men can lead to gynecomastia — enlargement of breast tissue (i.e. “moobs”), water retention, female-pattern fat deposition and mood changes.

High estrogen may also cause a decrease in testosterone, the male sex hormone. Watch out for hidden soy in protein powders and protein bars. And steer clear of soy milk; it’s NOT the holy grail of milk you are led to believe it is.

Stress Levels And Your Testosterone
